Key points for selecting solar cables
Time:Jun 29, 2026

Solar cable is a specialized cable designed specifically for photovoltaic systems, used to connect solar panels, inverters, and grid equipment to achieve safe transmission of direct current. It is the core component for long-term stable outdoor operation of photovoltaic power generation systems.

Core performance characteristics

It adopts a halogen-free special insulation sheath design, with high-purity tin plated copper wire as the conductor and cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) as the main insulation layer. It can work for a long time in a wide temperature range of -40 ℃ to+120 ℃, and has the characteristics of UV resistance, ozone resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, flame retardancy and low smoke. Its outdoor design service life is generally not less than 25 years, far superior to ordinary PVC cables.

Differences in characteristics of different types of solar cables on the market:

Radiation cross-linked solar cable, oil resistant and internationally certified for safety, suitable for conventional household photovoltaic scenarios.

Dual core solar cable, with the core selling point of high temperature resistance, suitable for ordinary outdoor distributed photovoltaic wiring.

Flame retardant solar cable, with a focus on UV resistance, suitable for outdoor power station scenarios with long-term exposure to sunlight.

Fireproof solar cable, with high and low temperature resistance, flame retardant insulation characteristics, suitable for industrial and commercial photovoltaic projects with high fire safety requirements.

High voltage solar cables, made of low smoke and halogen-free materials, are suitable for high-voltage transmission scenarios in large capacity centralized photovoltaic power plants.

Key points of selection

When selecting, priority should be given to confirming whether the product has TUV certification, the cross-sectional area of the conductor should match the system current load, and the DC and AC circuits should correspond to different withstand voltage levels; When installed on rooftops, in outdoor environments with large temperature differences, it is recommended to prioritize models that are UV resistant and have strong adaptability to wide temperatures. At the same time, the waterproof joint protection level should match the cable to avoid shortening the system life due to incompatible accessories.
